The meeting was called to order at 1:32pm by VP David Henry.

Some 25 members were welcomed; there were no guests. He thanked Jerry Timen for taking the minutes.

Several people handled the meeting setup and breakdown.

He thanked those who provided refreshments: Ray Garcia, Jerry Timen, Wayne Lawrence and Carolyn Waters.

Business Meeting:

Parking passes are available for $2.50 at the check-in desk, or from the OLLI Office.

The Spring Open House will be on Thursday April 14 9:30am at the Centro Asturiano. Our speaker will be Dr Susan MacManus, USF Professor of Public Administration and Political Science. PLEASE NOTE HER TALK WILL BEGIN AT 9:30AM.

Coaches will be needed for the upcoming OLLI Summer session. Please check the Computer Class Grids link on the www.OLLILifeUSF.org website.

There was a discussion on possibly moving the venue of SNUG meetings to off-campus locations with free parking. Several sites were suggested including Canterbury Towers, Lake Magdalene United Methodist Church, Grill 116, IHOP. Wayne Lawrence agreed to look into them and report back to the May meeting.

President Foecking has nominated the following slate of officers for the academic year beginning in September 2016:

  • Co-presidents: Bob Capellini and Caye Wheeler
  • Vice president: Wayne Lawrence
  • Secretary: Tiki Kirk
  • Treasurer: Irene Stachow

Nominations remain open until the next SNUG meeting May 13, when a vote will be taken.

Moderator Dave Palmer introduced the experts for the Q&A program: Frank Weitzman, Myron Thorner, Joe Adles and Jim Kaehler. Questions were asked about

  • Refillable printer ink cartridges – they work well
  • Win 10 – considered easy to use
  • Win 10’s Edge browser – it’s still unfinished
  • How to sync an iPhone and iPod – via a Mac computer
  • Computer maintenance – use Advanced System Care weekly
  • How to secure computer info – smart TVs and other devices may not be secure
  • Ransomware – if caught, use an earlier System Restore point
  • Backup – Best is Acronis True Image, then Carbonite, or drag and drop important files to an external hard drive
