Librarian Lee McQueary gave an introduction to the many resources of the History & Genealogy Library.  There are plans to expand the Florida Collection.  They have many city directories for Florida.  He showed us the Burgert Brothers photo collection and explained how to use it.   He showed us the large Sanborn maps for Tampa.  We then toured the microfilm area; newspapers include the Tampa Tribune, Tampa Times, St. Pete Times, & Florida Sentinel Bulletin.  Also Census, Military, Immigration, Naturalizations, Freedman’s Bureau, some state and other records are on microfilm.  There is a newspaper clipping file, indexed by subject.  There are microfilm readers, 5 computers, which can be used for microfilm; on these you can save to a flash drive or print copies.

The Book Collection uses a modified Dewey system, arranged by state, so one can easily browse the collection, for an area you are interested in.  Periodicals arrangement: National, Region, & International.

Lee gave an email to contact the FL History & Genealogy Library for research questions or to look up obituaries in the TRAILS database:

The tour concluded at 11:15 a.m.
