The meeting was held on Friday, March 1, 2013 at 10am at the USF OLLI Meeting Room.    

The following members were present:  Bill Sapper, Will Schneider, Fred Barthmus, Jean Amuso Shirley Deeter, Nancy Marsh, Sheldon Busansky and William Stanley.

 The following members were absent: Nancy Stuart

 The following staff members attended: Joseph McAuliffe, Ara Rogers

 The following guests attended: Gail Parsons, Jack Plimmer

 The following agenda items were discussed:

 1.  Welcome: Bill gave an overview of the agenda and welcomed our guests. Jack and Gail are considering making presentations as part of the 50th Anniversary cruise education program

 2.  Approval of minutes: Sheldon moved that the minutes of the February meeting be approved. Nancy Marsh seconded. The motion carried 8-0.

 3. Cruise Course Discussion: Jack has submitted his suggestions for cruise courses he would like to teach. Gail has volunteered to teach courses on nature & birds. Ara is anxious to finalize the course class schedule. The cruise registration deadline has been extended to May.  Three of our committee members are participating in the anniversary book as prose reviewers.

 4. Subcommittee Reports

a. Jean Amuso, Electives Subcommittee: The subcommittee met and discussed surveying past course attendance records to determine how to maximize attendance in future courses. The Jewelry Making class is ready. Shirley moved that the course be approved for presentation. Nancy Marsh seconded. The motion carried 8-0.

 b. Shirley Deeter, Technology; Windows Computer Training Subcommittee: A meeting will be held  today will plan the summer and fall schedules. Windows XP instruction will be shut down. Only Windows 7&8 will be taught.

 c. Nancy Stuart, Humanities and the Arts Subcommittee: Absent.

 d. William Stanley, History & Political Science Subcommittee: William reported that the Literature and the Law will be presented. A course based on the PBS series, Catholicism, is being reviewed by the subcommittee. Bill and Nancy mentioned that such a course must concentrate on history of religion and not engage in religious proselytizing. The committee suggested the proposed subject be presented at a Friday lecture and/or be brought before the full Curriculum Committee for review.

 e. Nancy Marsh, Technology: Macintosh Computer Training Subcommittee: Nancy reported the iPad manual has been completed and the course is ready. She mentioned the WiFi connectivity problem. Wi-Fi is a requirement for the iPad course.

 f. Sheldon Bursansky, Science & Math subcommittee: Two courses are in development; Astronomy and History of Science. Sheldon is seeking medical instructors. The week’s Friday lecturer is on Health Conditions in Gaza.

 5. Committee Members discussion topics

By-laws Revision Committee: Sheldon reported that he is continuing to work with the ad hoc committee that is tasked to review the bylaws and submit suggested changes to the Board of Advisors.

 The next meeting will be held on April 5.
