The November meeting was convened by VP David Henry, who announced that the program speaker was delayed due to transportation problems.       The following guests were welcomed and introduced themselves: Nicola Haskins, James Haskins, William Sapper, Greg Vawter, Maria Fiol, Joaquin Fiol and Ann Liggett. He thanked Jim Kaehler for the setup, and those who brought refreshments: Nancy Sjoberg, Marilyn Bartholomew, Jim Kaehler and Rubye Nelson.

Announcements:

  • Trev Wunderlin, chairman of G-SIG, has been in hospital undergoing cancer treatments.
  • There will be no SNUG meeting in December. All are instead invited to attend the OLLI Holiday Party at Centro Asturiano on December 6 at 2:00 pm.
  • Sherry Foecking announced two upcoming computer conventions:, the Florida Association of Computer User Groups, FACUG, has booked the entire Club Med facility in Sandpiper Bay for February 25-28, 2013. Also the Education Technology Convention will be held in Orlando in January 2013. Interested persons should contact her for more information at Sherjo18@yahoo.com
  • Sherry also explained the delay of the speaker and that a member had been sent to bring him to the meeting.

Heidi Bauer is leaving. The OLLI staff coordinator for computer classes, she visited SNUG to say her thanks and goodbyes. She was acknowledged with a slide show and was given a standing ovation by the membership.

David then conducted an informal question and answer session which covered a wide range of topics and many of the questions were answered by other participants. Of special interest was anti-tracking software such as Do Not TrackPlus, a free download that blocks sites tracking purchases and visits to web addresses for commercial purposes. Mailwasher and Frontrow E.U . were also described. Because of the lateness of the speaker, many members left.

James Clemons finally arrived at 3:30pm and conducted an informal and informative session on Windows 8. He had a huge computer bank of various softwares and told of his work in debugging software including an advance copy of Windows 8. He also passed around a laptop with Windows 8 so that members could interact with it. He answered several questions from the members and compared Windows 7 and Window 8.

There was no Executive Board meeting due to the lateness of the hour and the

time for the room reservation had run out. The meeting was adjourned at 4:00pm.
