Don Gilbart was an instructor in the LIR program and served on the Curriculum Committee for two years. An obituary follows.

GILBART, Donald Hughes A native of St. Petersburg, died March 31, 2011. His parents, Russell H. and Bertha E. Gilbart preceded him. He is survived by his wife, Helen, and several cousins, Miriam Williams of St. Petersburg, David Gilbart of Las Vegas, NV, Ken Gilbart of Washington, DC, Jane Dallager of Colorado Springs, CO, G. John Gilbart of Asheville, NC, and Jerry Gilbart of Fairfax, VA. Donald taught at St. Petersburg College, LakeCityJunior College and completed his career teaching psychology and sociology at HillsboroughCommunity College. He had enlisted service in the Navy, then graduated from the University of Florida and returned to the Navy to retire with Commander rank. He served on ships and commanded the Naval Reserve Officers’ School in St. Petersburg and the Naval Reserve Surface Division in Gainesville. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and served several years as its treasurer. At HCC he was a president of the faculty organization and continued service and support to the HCC Foundation. He maintained an interest in his college fraternity, TKE, and supported the U of F Foundation. With his wife, Helen, they supported the TampaMuseum of Art, the Florida Orchestra, the Leepa-RattnerMuseum of Art, St. PetersburgCollege and HillsboroughCommunity College Foundations and the TampaHistoryMuseum. His further interests included serving as a board member and president of two condo associations, genealogy, travel abroad and involvement with the USF Learning in Retirement program. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday at 4 pm at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 906 S. Orleans Avenue, Tampa, with reception following.
